Best Used Honda Buyer's Guide

Thursday, October 13, 2011

Hondas are some of the most sought-after used cars, as they are prized for their reliability. It’s actually common to see a Honda log well over 100,000 miles of trouble-free driving. Only basic upkeep is needed to keep driving without the infamous maintenance nightmares of so many other makes and models. Many drivers also find more appeal in the styling of Honda cars, even over those of its biggest competitor, Toyota.

Which are the Best & Most Popular Used Hondas?

Honda Civic – Take your pick of the sedan, the coupe or even a hybrid. The Civic is the complete entry-level choice. With great fuel economy and solid Honda quality, it’s a perfect option for first-time buyers just as well as road warriors.

Accord - The Accord has run neck-and-neck with the Toyota Camry for overall best-seller, but the Accord came out on top with Kiplinger rankings with 4 nods over the past decade compared to the Camry’s two, winning it a top spot in the 10 Best Cars and Trucks from 2001 – 2010 and in 10 Cars that Refuse to Die.

2007 Sticker price: $27,830 (2011 EX V6)
Resale value (3 yrs./5 yrs.): 57%/39%

Sticker price, 2001 model: $25,540
Horsepower for 2001: 200
MPG (city/highway) for 2001: 18/26 (revised)

The Accord offers a slightly sportier suspension and more weighted steering, and its reliability combined with outstanding resale value have won loyal customers everywhere. Even in 2007 you could choose from several models… from the modest LX, a four-cylinder with cloth seats and manual transmission ($22,730) to the near-luxury EX-L V6, with leather seats, navigation and rear-view camera ($32,380). Honda Accord EX-L was also named among the 10 Best Picks in Used Cars. Honda’s bestseller is renowned for its reliability. In the last year before its redesign, the Accord once again laid claim to its value status with top-notch safety, a controlled but comfortable ride, and a 3-liter V6 that puts out 244 horses.

Honda S2000 – Don’t underestimate this two-seater convertible; it offers about 240 horsepower from a 4-cylinder engine. The personality of the S2000, its excitable high performance, and its stunning looks and inexpensive price as a used car make it tough to beat for bargain-savvy sports car hunters.

Honda Odyssey – Possibly the most proficient minivan built in the last five years. A used Honda Odyssey is the perfect family choice, for those both small and growing. It represents the peak of Honda’s designs, as even used Odysseys remain competitive with current model year vans. The 2006 Honda Odyssey Touring was also among the 10 Best Picks in Used Cars. Also on that list? The 2008 Honda Pilot EX…

Dealer used price: $23,747

With the spaciousness and utility of a truck-based SUV, the 2008 Honda Pilot is a crossover that didn’t sacrifice a sedan’s handling nor fuel economy, thanks to the unibody construction.

The 2011 Honda Odyssey Makes History

Friday, April 15, 2011

The 2011 Honda Odyssey just made history by becoming the first and only minivan to win the NHTSA’s (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) highest honor of 2011 Top Safety Pick. The Odyssey also won the highest achievable safety ratings for the IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety) and the NHTSA. Not only did it pass stringent testing for front, side, rear and rollover crashes in protecting vehicle occupants, it even passed the meticulous roof-strength test. The 2011 Odyssey was also one of the first vehicles to win the “Overall Vehicle Score” of 5 stars for crash scenarios, and 4 stars for the rollover rating as the federal New Car Assessment Program (NCAP), being applied for the first time to 2011 models. What makes the 2011 Odyssey so different? A lot, from under the hood to all around the body. All 2011 Odysseys are built with the Advanced Compatibility Engineering body structure, an elite body design that improves passenger safety and crash compatibility in frontal crashes through a network of structural connections that diminish the force headed for the passenger cabin. The minivan comes standard with Vehicle Stability Assist, traction control, Anti-Lock Braking System, driver’s frontside airbag, three-row side curtain airbags with rollover sensor, dual-stage, multiple-threshold front airbags and finally, a front passenger’s side airbag with an occupant detection system. Increased interior functionality, more unique styling and better fuel economy have helped make the new Odyssey a winner among Honda and minivan drivers all around. Aside from more comfortable seating and a more powerful, efficient 3.5 liter i-VTEC engine that delivers 248 horsepower, there is a rear entertainment system with a 16.2” ultra-wide split-screen display and auxiliary HDMI video input. The “intelligent” i-MID (Multi-Information Display) has customizable wallpaper and integration of FM traffic data among many other features. At Rick Case Honda, you get even more; all new Honda purchases come with a 10-year, 100,000-mile warranty, 5 years of 24/7 roadside assistance and free membership in the Rick Case Rewards program which lets you use points earned from each and every purchase or service toward discounts on future purchases or up to 10% off parts, services and accessories, discount gas and free car washes for life! Did you know you can change your own gas mileage?

Monday, April 4, 2011

No matter which vehicle you drive, there are a few surefire ways to make even a gas-guzzler more fuel-friendly. Believe it or not, the impact can be so significant that it can be the same as if you bought a different model altogether! "Millions of dollars worth of gasoline is wasted every day by motorists, because simple and inexpensive vehicle maintenance is neglected," said Rich White, executive director of the Car Care Council. "Loose or missing gas caps, under-inflated tires, worn spark plugs and dirty air filters all contribute to poor fuel economy." The Car Care Council recommends the following tips to make the most of your mileage:

  • Check your gas cap – about 17% of all vehicles have gas caps that are loose, damaged or missing, and that accounts for 147 million gallons of gas that are literally vaporized each year

  • Check your tire pressure – tires that are underinflated makes for a drive that’s the equivalent of having the parking brake on, which can take a mile or two per gallon away. That’s a big difference.

  • Don’t ignore your spark plugs – there can be 4, 6 or 8, firing as many as 3 million times every 1,000 miles. Dirty spark plugs misfire, wasting fuel. Replace them regularly.

  • Your car needs to breathe – a clogged air filter is a nice, rich mixture of bugs, dirt and dust, literally choking the airflow. Too much gas gets burned and the engine loses power. This is the point that pays you back – changing your air filter can improve your gas mileage up to 10%, dropping your actual gas cost by about 15 cents per gallon
And more than ever, idling is frowned upon and in many areas, illegal. It gets 0 miles per gallon and makes no sense; a car only needs to “warm up” for a minute or two. If you're driving a car from Rick Case Honda, you may not be as concerned about garnering even better fuel economy... but if you’re looking for some hard facts about Honda mileage, check out Rick Case Honda's Gas Calculator. There are always great service specials at Rick Case Honda, and every new Honda purchase comes with a 10-year, 100,000-mile warranty and 5 years of 24/7 roadside assistance. The Rick Case Rewards program saves you even more as you earn points that turn into discounts (up to 10%) on future services, parts, accessories, purchases… not to mention free car washes for life and discount gas!

Furthermore, the Fit was ranked above over 200 other cars analyzed for value, and was proclaimed to have almost twice the value of the average vehicle model.

Even the base model includes air conditioning, full power accessories, keyless entry, cruise control, a telescoping/tilt wheel, the very useful 60/40 split seat and a sound system complete with USB/CD/auxiliary. 2011 Honda CR-Z: A New Green Statement

Monday, December 13, 2010

Green car dealerships had few options in the market until recently. There were only a few biodiesel models and a small handful of electric-gasoline hybrids. Today, green cars have become hugely popular and their options and features have evolved well with the technology. With the announcement of the all-new pure electric vehicle, the green cars are poised for a greater growth. Rick Case Honda, better known for the best Honda value package in Cleveland, appreciates the fact that vehicles powered by compressed natural gas (CNG) emit half the greenhouse gases of gasoline-powered cars, and are now being used more for fleets. Encouraged by this fact, Entrepreneur magazine has now come out with "Wheels: Commercial Vehicle Guide 2010" to guide "go green" businessmen to choose the right green commercial vehicle for their business.

As per their estimation, Hydrogen-fueled cars (anticipated to be cleanest of all) are next in the line. A car powered by the hydrogen produced using solar power is said to be the cleanest car ever. Until then, although the first mass-market hydrogen cars will not be available till 2015, some vehicles like Honda Clarity are readily available for lease in parts of California. Honda is on the frontline of developing green cars and their CR-Z, a new, sporty hybrid coupe yields 37 mpg* and has already been regarded as a sophisticated new green car. The all-new, two-passenger 2011 Honda CR-Z sport hybrid coupe is a gasoline-electric hybrid with Integrated Motor Assist (IMA) technology. It’s a new three-mode drive system which tailors throttle response, steering and IMA assistance to the driver's preference. It has a driver-focused cockpit design, sport seats and 3-D instrumentation, and is backed by a performance-engineered suspension design. This is a must-see car for businessmen who are interested to contributing to a cleaner and greener environment and while still showing off and having fun. Visit the Rick Case Honda showroom anytime and explore this fabulous green technology with the CR-Z, Insight and Civic Hybrid! Only at Rick Case will you get a 10-year, 100,000-mile warranty and 5 years of 24-hour roadside assistance, not to mention free car washes for life and free membership in the Rick Case Rewards Program!

* Based on 2011 EPA mileage estimates for the 2011 CR-Z and 2010 EPA mileage estimates for the 2010 Insight and 2010 Civic Hybrid. Use for comparison purposes only. Do not compare to models before 2008 unless those numbers have been adjusted to 2008-and-later figures according to the EPA's fueleconomy.gov Web site. Your actual mileage will vary depending on how you drive and maintain your vehicle.
